 TOWNS & VILLAGES Of LESVOS

ERESSOS
SKALA ERESSOS

The town of Eressos, almost 100 km away from Mytilini is located at the homonymous plain surrounded by barren volcanic mountains at West Lesvos. It is a small town with very ancient roots and a welcoming oasis within a short distance from the coastline. The ancient lyric poetess Sappho and the philosopher and botanist Theophrastus were born here.

Skala Eressos, situated 3 km to the south is a modern summer resort with hotels, rented apartments, quaint tavernas, cafes and a beach suitable for sports and games in the sand. Northeast of Skala the ruins of the ancient town of Eressos have been found (walls, theatre, prytaneum, agora, ancient temples). At the site Vigla the ruins of medieval and Turkish small towers and the early Christian Basilica of Agios Andreas can be visited.

PLACES WORTH VISITING
